Middle School Gathering

Today, during Gathering (a time for the Middle School community to connect), students explored the the National Anthem Protests by NFL players. They were presented with video clips from the different sides in the current debate in a sensitive and developmentally appropriate way that encouraged the students and faculty to lean into a potentially difficult, and uncomfortable conversation. This was an opportunity for our community to vulnerable, lean into any discomfort, and know that it's "ok" not to have the answers, but we all have the responsibility to listen, think critically, and act.

Gathering also included a presentation by a group of 8th grade students who have created an affinity space for students of color and mixed race students. The purpose of the POC/Mixed Race Affinity Group is to provide a safe, fun, and supportive space for students of color to explore their identity with support from several Redwood Day staff, including Denise Breland, Director of Student Life and Meredith Spencer, Dean of Equity & Inclusion. Meetings will be held three times per month during lunch and after school.
