6th Graders Visit IDEO
On Monday, December 3rd, our 6th-grade class took a ferry to the city and visited the offices of IDEO*. The presentation and tour, hosted by Lynda Deakin, a Redwood Day parent, reviewed the design thinking method that the 6th-grade design classes have been exploring in depth during their first trimester. We learned that design thinking is now applied to much larger design problems--even as a method to explore solutions to social problems. The presentation highlighted work IDEO has done to encourage children to eat healthier food and showed students how designers used each step of the design thinking methodology to ultimately arrive at their human-centered design solutions. During the tour, guides showed our students their beautiful, dog-friendly, office space and at each stop showed us examples of how IDEO puts design thinking in action to solve real problems in their own workspaces. After the visit to IDEO 6th graders had lunch at the SF Ferry Building before their return trip to Redwood Day.
