Redwood Day at the 2016 NAIS People of Color Conference

Last week, seven teachers and administrators attended the NAIS People of Color Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The attendance topped out at just over 5000 participants, 1600 of which were high school students from all over the country. It was an incredible time for learning, individual and institutional reflection, and civic engagement. Workshops, featured speakers and racial affinity group sessions make up the bulk of the conference, while connection and community building with colleagues from all over the country outside of these structured moments are the heart of the experience. Featured speakers included Bryan Stevenson, founder and executive director of Equal Justice Initiative, David J. Johns, executive director of the White House Initiative of Educational Excellence for African Americans, Rinku Sen, president and executive director of Race Forward: The Center for Racial Justice Innovation, and Zak Ebrahim, author of "The Terrorist's Son: As Story of Choice"
