LOWER SCHOOL

ATHLETICS

The Redwood Day Athletics Program seeks to enrich the social, emotional, and physical well-being of student athletes.

Students of varying abilities participate and enjoy their involvement, while coaches emphasize values of commitment, integrity, self-discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

THE HEART OF THE COUGARS: GROWTH THROUGH ATHLETICS

At Redwood Day, athletics play a major role in fostering growth, teamwork, and a love for sports. Guided by dedicated coaches, students build skills, develop resilience, and connect with peers through healthy competition in the East Bay league. From thrilling games to personal victories, athletics bring energy and excitement to every season.

With 75% of Middle School students participating in athletics, our program helps students build social bonds, develop self-discipline, and learn the value of fair play. Whether playing for the love of the game or striving to improve their skills, our athletes thrive as part of a community that celebrates teamwork and growth.

Lower School MicroSports

Microsports was created to give our lower school students an opportunity to compete in a more formal and competitive setting. Microsports is designed to help young sports enthusiasts elevate their skills while having a blast. In each six-week session, we blend dynamic skill-building activities with friendly scrimmage games, creating an engaging and growth-oriented experience. We are excited to begin our soccer session, which begins on Tuesday, January 30, and goes through March 14.

This isn't just another class; it's a journey of self-discovery, teamwork, and personal development. No prior experience is required. What truly matters is your child's passion for competitive sports and their eagerness to join us in learning and playing. We are dedicated to nurturing your child's passion for sports in a caring and supportive manner.

Led by our Lower School Physical Education Teacher, Jason Morte, and under the direction of our Athletic Director, Todd Petersen, our MicroSports sessions through the year focus on Soccer, Basketball, and Floorball with the possibility of adding new sports always a possibility.

Facilities

Redwood Day’s athletic facilities are where the action happens! Our modern gymnasium buzzes with energy during home games, while our smaller Lower School gym provides a space for practice and play. Convenient locker rooms make it easy for students to gear up and get game-ready. With the blacktop and nearby park for outdoor activities, there’s always room to train, compete, and enjoy the game. Indoors or out, our facilities set the stage for unforgettable athletic moments.
