A specialized enrichment program for students who need deeper intellectual challenge and complexity to reach their Optimal Learning Zone.
Redwood Day’s Signature Programs are where specialized instruction meets real-world application. These distinctive experiences transform learning into leadership, allowing students to apply and expand their knowledge far beyond the classroom walls. Whether they are using Oakland as a living laboratory, opting into high-school-style Advanced Topics electives, or building social-emotional courage through our Equity and Inclusion work, every program is designed to cultivate the agency and intellectual skills your child needs to thrive.
Explorers Program: A Pathway for ENRICHMENT AND Discovery
The Explorers Program is rooted in our commitment to ensuring all students access their Optimal Learning Zone. For students in 3rd-5th grades who meet eligibility criteria, this extracurricular program invites those students to dive deeper into content and explore their curiosities in an environment tailored to their unique learning profiles.
This successful program will expand to include Grades 6-8 in the 2026-27 school year.

How the Explorers Program Works
Project-Based Discovery
Students tackle high-level challenges, including researching life on Mars or engineering intricate spacecraft.
Student-Led Inquiry
The curriculum evolves based on students' interests and abilities, leveraging their natural curiosity
Collaborative Affinity
Build a better world through Design, Build, Innovate, and unlock personal efficacy in Learning to Learn
Targeted Extension
The program meets twice weekly, providing challenge and extension above and beyond the core classroom for students identified as gifted or twice-exceptional (2e).
Whether students are sketching designs for a "Space Pod" project or exploring the conditions necessary for space travel, the goal remains the same: to inspire students to reach for their next challenge and develop the intellectual courage to be ready for anything. While robust differentiation continues for all students in our core classrooms, the Explorers program ensures that our neurodivergent learners find the specific, high-level engagement they need to flourish.
