The Redwood Day Athletics Program seeks to enrich the social, emotional, and physical well-being of student athletes. Students of varying abilities participate and enjoy their involvement while coaches emphasize values of commitment, integrity, self-discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Winter Athletics (November 18 - March 6)

  • Boys Basketball
  • Girls Basketball
We will have Boys and Girls basketball teams. Tryouts will begin the week of November 21-25. We will have 3 Boys (one varsity and two junior varsity) teams and 2 girls (one varsity and one junior varsity) teams. Student-athletes must attend at least one tryout session, though attending both is recommended.

We suggest that student-athletes push themselves to tryout for the highest level team that they think they may be able to play. Any player that doesn't make a higher level team will automatically be placed on the next tier team.

Contact Todd Petersen, Middle School Physical Education Teacher & Director of Athletic Programs at 510.534.0804, ext. 342.
Redwood Day participates in a league with 15 independent and public middle schools in the East Bay. We look to schedule 6-10 contests per season of sport for each team. Typically games start at 4:00 pm and are an hour to 1 1/2 hours in length. Approximately half of the games are hosted here on campus. We do look for parent/guardians to help carpool our athletes to away games. Please make sure that you sign up as an "authorized driver" so that if the need arises, you are able to transport students. We highly suggest that all parent/guardians sign up, even if your child has not shown an interest in participating in athletics, as they often change their mind later in the year.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Todd Petersen, Middle School Physical Education Teacher/Athletic Director, at tpetersen@rdschool.org.
