Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year, Redwood Day Parents and Guardians!
We are delighted to kick-off the school year, get our students back into the classroom, and reconnect across families, students, faculty and staff in our vibrant community. As your new PGA Co-Presidents, we, Teresa Surichamorn and Lauren Webster, are delighted to welcome you to the 2026-2027 academic year at Redwood Day.
Over the summer, we reflected on and felt gratitude for this amazing community, and we sought to develop a theme for what we hope the PGA can achieve this year. The theme we came up with is “In Partnership,” a phrase that is used often between the school and home and one we hope the PGA will build upon this year. We will endeavor to focus on ways to deepen partnership within the PGA itself, bringing new parents and guardians into partnership with the PGA and lending their ideas and talents to the work of our PGA Committees; to deepen partnership between the PGA and the broader school community, including Redwood Day’s strategic initiative to become more integrated into the fabric of Oakland through the school’s Oakland as a Classroom program; and to deepen partnership within the classroom, as our phenomenal Room Parents–and all parents and guardians–continue to support and build partnership between the classroom and the home.
Every Redwood Day parent and guardian is a vital member of the PGA. Your involvement, whether big or small, helps create partnership and community across the school. We’ve already mentioned a few ways to get involved above:
- Join a PGA Committee, where much of the work of the PGA gets done–from Book Fair, Fall Festival, Generations Day, and Auction planning; to Community Caring & Engagement, where we will have new initiatives this year to get our families out into the broader Oakland community for service and engagement; to Digital Wellness, Diversity in Action, Faculty & Staff Appreciation, and so much more!
- Become a Room Parent or Social Coordinator for your child’s grade. Being a Room Parent is a great way to deepen your partnership with our exceptional teachers and staff, who collaborate with Room Parents on classroom activities, communicating with families, and field trip logistics; while being a Social Coordinator is a great way to deepen your connectivity within your immediate Redwood Day circle.

We are immensely grateful to all the parents and guardians who have already raised their hands to volunteer this year, and we are always looking for more volunteers to partner with the PGA in our work for the community.
Our first PGA Community Forum is planned for September 25, and we invite everyone to join us. It’s a great way to learn more about what we do, share your ideas, get to know other parents and guardians, and find ways to partner with each other in building a vibrant school community.
