Kindergarteners in X-Care Exploring "Under the Sea"

Chelsea Hill, Activity Leader
KA and KB are getting familiar with Redwood Day and one another through hours of X-Care activities and enrichment. Each day, we take time to expand our movement with teamwork games and free play, nourish our bodies with a variety of snacks, explore Barbara's garden, read thoughtful and colorful stories, create art projects, and discuss all the topics that young minds are curious about as they grow older -- family systems, insects, body parts, friendships, language, plants, and so much more!

During their first week, we spent time on teamwork, emotions, transitions, and orientation to their space! They picked edible flowers from Barbara's garden and froze them into edible ice cubes, which they delivered to staff members to become familiar with key adults that work at Redwood Day. Now in our second full week, we're exploring "Under The Sea," reading about how little boys can also be mermaids, making our own very unique "Rainbow Fish," full of sparkly scales to share, and discussing bubbles and underwater breathing. The KA and KB teams are uniting as one through X-Care, and learning to swim together as one giant "school of fish."
