PGA Board Descriptions

The Redwood Day Parent Guardian Association Board is composed of current Redwood Day Parents and Guardians as well as the Head of School. Please see a detailed description of the Board positions below.
Role Description
President Manages the PGA programs to meet the objectives of the PGA. Presides over and sets the agenda for PGA meetings. Represents the PGA at Redwood Day key events. Collaborates with the Vice President and the School to create an annual PGA budget. Serves as an Ex - Officio Member of the Board of Trustees. Must have served as an Officer for at least one year prior to becoming President.
Vice-President Works alongside the President as a trainee and an advisor. In the absence or by request of the President, assumes leadership of the PGA. Collaborates with the President, the Committee Chairs and the School on the PGA budget. Oversees ongoing PGA finances and ensures adherence to approved budget.
Communications Secretary Manages communication between the PGA and the school community based on the PGA Communications Best Practices guidelines. Responsible for overseeing Redwood Day Weekly entries for the PGA, room parent communications, and other direct communication with the community.
Recording Secretary Prepares minutes of PGA meetings and distributes copies of previous meeting minutes for approval. Maintains a record of minutes of all meetings, proceedings and actions of the PGA. Maintains a complete file of all approved minutes, agendas and materials distributed at any official PGA meeting
Middle School Coordinator Helps recruit, train and give ongoing support to the Middle School Room Parent team. Oversees the Nominating Committee Process, including the formation of the Nominations Committee in partnership with the Lower School Coordinator. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Sets up and helps manage Sign Up Genius (or another tool) to support the work of the Room Parents. Plans the Middle School Mixer with the help of the Middle School Room Parents. Stays in close contact with the Middle School Director to ascertain how to best support the Middle School..
Lower School Coordinator Helps recruit, train and give ongoing support to the Lower School Room Parent team. Oversees the Nominating Committee Process, including the formation of the Nominations Committee in partnership with the Middle School Coordinator. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Sets up and helps manage Sign Up Genius to support the work of the Room Parents. Plans for the Lower School Mixer with the help of the Lower School Room Parents. Stays in close contact with the Head of the Lower School to ascertain how to best support the Lower School.
K-1 Representative Attends PGA meetings and facilitates communication between kindergarten and first grade classes and the PGA. Responds to questions about the PGA and develops strategies to increase parent participation and community involvement. Works with the Lower School Coordinator to support Lower School activities as needed.
2-3 Representative Attends PGA meetings and facilitates communication between second and third grade classes and the PGA. Responds to questions about the PGA and develops strategies to increase parent participation and community involvement. Works with the School to plan the all-school potlucks after Step Up.
4-5 Representative Attends PGA meetings and facilitates communication between fourth and fifth grade classes and the PGA. Responds to questions about the PGA and develops strategies to increase parent participation and community involvement. Works with the Middle School Representatives to plan the PGA Hail & Farewell Event.
Middle School Representatives (2) Attends PGA meetings and facilitates communication between Middle School classes and the PGA. Responds to questions about the PGA and develops strategies to increase parent participation and community involvement. Works with the 4-5 Representative to plan the PGA Hail & Farewell event.
Financial Coordinator Attends PGA meetings. Serves as the point person for room parents regarding their class budgets, specifically the collection and allocation of class funds. Liaison with the Auction accounting team and the School’s Business Office as needed.
President Emeritus Serves in an advisory role to the President, and the PGA as a whole. Provides insight and advice as a knowledgeable member of the PGA. Attends PGA meetings, events and upon request, assists officers in performing their roles.
