PGA Board Descriptions

The Redwood Day Parent Guardian Association Board is composed of current Redwood Day Parents and Guardians as well as the Head of School. Please see a detailed description of the Board positions below.
Role Description
President Manages the PGA programs to meet the objectives of the PGA. Presides over and sets the agenda for PGA meetings. Represents the PGA at Redwood Day key events, to include but not limited to Fall Festival, Generations Day, Auction Party, Fun Run, etc. Limited speaking role at LS New Student Orientation, MS Orientation, Back to School Night, Auction. Collaborates with the VP and the School to create an annual PGA budget as well as selecting recipients of the PGA Faculty and Staff Grant Program. Serves as an Ex-Officio Member of the Board of Trustees and attends monthly meetings, Trustee Retreat, and Trustees Day. Ideally has served as an officer for at least one year prior to becoming President. Serves as an officer in a limited advisory capacity as President Emeritus the year following presidency.
Vice-President Works alongside the President as a trainee and an advisor. In the absence or by request of the President, assumes leadership of the PGA. Collaborates with the President, the Committee Chairs and the School on the PGA budget. Helps select recipients of the PGA Faculty and Staff Grant Program. Ideally will step into the President role the year following vice presidency.
Communications Secretary Helps manage communication between the PGA and the school community based on the PGA Communications Best Practices guidelines.
Middle School Coordinator Helps recruit, train and give ongoing support to the Middle School Room Parent team, ensuring they are aware of important dates like the MS Mixer and Friday Coffees. Facilitates Room Parent Orientation with the Lower School Coordinator. Oversees the Nominating Committee Process, including the formation of the Nominations Committee in partnership with the Lower School Coordinator. Sets up and helps manage Sign Up Genius (or another tool) to support the work of the Room Parents. Stays in close contact with the Middle School Director to ascertain how to best support the Middle School.
Lower School Coordinator Helps recruit, train and give ongoing support to the Lower School Room Parent team, ensuring they are aware of important dates: LS Mixer and Friday Coffees. Oversees the Nominating Committee Process, including the formation of the Nominations Committee in partnership with the Middle School Coordinator. Sets up and helps manage Sign Up Genius to support the work of the Room Parents. Stays in close contact with the Lower School Director to ascertain how to best support the Lower School.
K-2 Representative Facilitates communication between kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd-grade classes and the PGA. Plans the fall Lower School Mixer with the other Rep, and with support from the Lower School Coordinator and Room Parents. Works with the other Reps to plan the PGA Hello, Goodbye Event in the spring. Responds to questions about the PGA and develops strategies to increase parent participation and community involvement. Works with the School to plan the all-school potlucks after Step Up. Works with the Lower School Coordinator to support Lower School activities as needed.
3-5 Representative Facilitates communication between 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade classes and the PGA. Plans the fall Lower School Mixer with the other Rep, and with support from the Lower School Coordinator and Room Parents. Works with the Middle School Coordinator to support Middle School activities as needed.
Financial Coordinator Serves as the point person for Room Parents regarding their class budgets, specifically the collection and allocation of Lower and Middle School Teachers Funds. Liaison with the Advancement Department and the Business Office on the PGA budget; present and lead budget discussion with PGA officers in December.
President Emeritus Serves in an advisory role to the President, and the PGA as a whole. Provides insight and advice as a knowledgeable member of the PGA. Attends PGA meetings, events and upon request, assists officers in performing their roles.

In addition, all officers:
  • Attend PGA meetings and all PGA activities and events as they are able, acting as ambassadors for the PGA and the School.
  • Serve as a liaison to at least one committee, helping recruit volunteers with the help of the Room Parents. Must attend at least one planning meeting for each committee, and give updates on the committee at PGA Meetings in the absence of a co-chair.
  • Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee to help recruit, communicate with, and place PGA officers and committee chairs for the following school year.
