PGA Board Descriptions

The Redwood Day Parent Guardian Association Board is composed of current Redwood Day Parents and Guardians as well as the Head of School. Please see a detailed description of the Board positions below.
Role Description
President Manages the PGA programs to meet the objectives of the PGA. Presides over and sets the agenda for PGA meetings. Represents the PGA at Redwood Day key events, to include but not limited to Fall Festival, Generations Day, Auction Party, Fun Run, etc. Limited speaking role at LS New Student Orientation, MS Orientation, LS Mixer, MS Mixer, Thank You Breakfast. Collaborates with the Vice President and the School to create an annual PGA budget as well as selecting recipients of the PGA Summer Grant Program. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Serves as an Ex - Officio Member of the Board of Trustees and attends monthly meetings. Serves as liaison to all committees, mainly Auction Party, Fall Festival, and Fun Run. Must have served as an Officer for at least one year prior to becoming President.
Vice-President Works alongside the President as a trainee and an advisor. In the absence or by request of the President, assumes leadership of the PGA. Collaborates with the President, the Committee Chairs and the School on the PGA budget. Oversees ongoing PGA finances and ensures adherence to approved budget.
Communications Secretary Manages communication between the PGA and the school community based on the PGA Communications Best Practices guidelines. Responsible for overseeing Redwood Day Weekly entries for the PGA, room parent communications, and other direct communication with the community. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Serves as liaison to the Caring Committee - must attend at least one committee planning meeting, and give updates on the Caring Committee at PGA Meetings.
Middle School Coordinator Helps recruit, train and give ongoing support to the Middle School Room Parent team, ensuring they are aware of important dates: MS Mixer and Friday Coffees. Facilitates Room Parent Orientation with the Lower School Coordinator. Oversees the Nominating Committee Process, including the formation of the Nominations Committee in partnership with the Lower School Coordinator. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Sets up and helps manage Sign Up Genius (or another tool) to support the work of the Room Parents. Plans the Middle School Mixer with the help of the Middle School Room Parents. Stays in close contact with the Middle School Director to ascertain how to best support the Middle School. Serves as liaison to the Faculty Appreciation Committee and the Fun Run Committee, helping recruit volunteers with the help of the Middle School Room Parents. Must attend at least one planning meeting for each committee, and be able to give a Faculty Appreciation update and a Fun Run update at PGA Meetings.
Lower School Coordinator Helps recruit, train and give ongoing support to the Lower School Room Parent team, ensuring they are aware of important dates: LS Mixer and Friday Coffees. Oversees the Nominating Committee Process, including the formation of the Nominations Committee in partnership with the Middle School Coordinator. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Sets up and helps manage Sign Up Genius to support the work of the Room Parents. Plans for the Lower School Mixer with the help of the Lower School Room Parents. Stays in close contact with the Lower School Director to ascertain how to best support the Lower School. Serves as liaison to the Faculty Appreciation Committee and the Fun Run Committee, helping recruit volunteers with the help of the Lower School Room Parents. Must attend at least one planning meeting for each committee, and be able to give a Faculty Appreciation update and a Fun Run update at PGA Meetings.
K-1 Representative Attends PGA meetings and facilitates communication between kindergarten and first-grade classes and the PGA. Responds to questions about the PGA and develops strategies to increase parent participation and community involvement. Works with the School to plan the all-school potlucks after Step Up. Works with the Lower School Coordinator to support Lower School activities as needed. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Serves as liaison to the Fall Festival Committee. Must attend at least one planning meeting for Fall Festival, and be able to give a Fall Festival update at PGA Meetings.
2-3 Representative Attends PGA meetings and facilitates communication between second and third-grade classes and the PGA. Responds to questions about the PGA and develops strategies to increase parent participation and community involvement. Works with the School to plan the all-school potlucks after Step Up. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Serves as liaison to the Book Fair Committee and the Friday Coffee Committee. Must attend at least one planning meeting for each committee, help secure volunteers, and be able to give a Book Fair update and a Coffee Friday update at PGA Meetings.
4-5 Representative Attends PGA meetings and facilitates communication between fourth and fifth-grade classes and the PGA. Responds to questions about the PGA and develops strategies to increase parent participation and community involvement. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Serves as liaison to the Lice Busters Committee. Must attend at least one planning meeting, and be able to give a Lice Busters update at PGA Meetings. Works with the Middle School Representatives to plan the PGA Hello, Goodbye Event.
Middle School Representatives (2) Attends PGA meetings and facilitates communication between Middle School classes and the PGA. Responds to questions about the PGA and develops strategies to increase parent participation and community involvement. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Serves as liaison to the Fall Festival Committee and the Generations Day Committee, and helps secure volunteers for both events. Must attend at least one planning meeting for each committee, and be able to give a Fall Festival update and a Generations Day update at PGA Meetings. Works with the 4-5 Representative to plan the PGA Hello, Goodbye Event.
Financial Coordinator Attends PGA meetings. Serves as the point person for room parents regarding their class budgets, specifically the collection and allocation of class funds. Liaison with the Auction accounting team and the School’s Business Office as needed. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Serves as liaison to the Library Committee. Must attend at least one planning meeting for the Library Committee, and be able to give a Library Committee update at PGA Meetings.
President Emeritus Serves in an advisory role to the President, and the PGA as a whole. Provides insight and advice as a knowledgeable member of the PGA. Attends PGA meetings, events and upon request, assist officers in performing their roles. Participates as a member of the Nominations Committee. Serves as liaison to the Art Committee. Must attend at least one planning meeting for the Art Committee, and be able to give an Art Committee update at PGA Meetings.
