Día de los Muertos at RDS
The RDS community has come together for an annual celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
Our Gallery space has been transformed and now includes an incredible variety of traditional and unique displays honoring ancestors, friends, and important people (and pets!) who have gone before us. The displays include a large community altar designed by 4th and 5th grades, pan de muerto (bread of the dead), sugar skulls, and ofrendas (offerings/altars) all created by 1st grade, bookmarks created in 5th grade art classes, and Spanish language ofrendas created by 8th grade Spanish students. Many students, faculty, parents, and other community members have contributed a written memory to a collective memory display.
To learn more about Día de los Muertos, several classes have taken, or are taking, field trips to the Oakland Museum's own extensive Day of the Dead exhibit. Please stop by RDS to visit this beautiful display!
