Summer Reading 2011

Dear families,

Summertime reading is my favorite kind of reading. Pleasure reading at it's best. Bathing in sun, in the cool shade of a tree, all my cozy winter reading nooks get moved to the outside air allowing me to fall into a book in a different way. This is the opportunity to  really nurture your child's love of reading. Their favorite magazines, graphic novels, nonfiction, whatever it is that they choose support it and encourage it. They are choosing to read and in the end that is all that really matters!

On the right hand side of the screen under "file downloads" you will find links to my recommended summer reading lists. Please note that these are simply books I have loved, books that have won awards, or new books that have recently been released, some may be perfect for your child and others might not. It is always up to the reader themselves to determine what they are interested in and what works best for them. The lists are also grouped by general age range, but a 2nd grader might find books on the 3rd-4th list that they'd like to read too, so don't be afraid to take a peek at other lists as well. Just fyi, the K-2nd list is two pages long.

Also, here is a link to some book lists that your librarians have put together over the school year. Redwood Day Resource Lists It is another place to go to get more ideas about what to read this summer!

Happy Reading!
