Donating Books
How can you donate books at the Book Fair? Lots of ways! You can buy a book for the library, buy a book for a classroom, or participate in the BookShare program.
Donating Books to the Helen Dittmer Library at RDS
There will be a "Library Table" with books that the librarian has selected for the library. If you would like to buy one of the books for the library, bring the book to the cashier with the rest of your purchases. You'll pay for the book and complete a donor bookplate, and your donated book will be sent to the library.
Buying Books for Your Child’s Classroom
All teachers have the opportunity to ask for books – including specialists and Middle School teachers. Go to the bulletin board near the reception area and look for the envelope with the teacher’s name on it. There will be a slip in the teacher’s envelope for each book requested. (If there are no slips in the teacher’s envelope that means that either the teacher did not request any books or that all of the requested books have already been purchased.) Find the book on the tables and bring it to the cashier with the rest of your purchases. If you have trouble finding the book you’re looking for, ask one of the friendly volunteers for help. You'll pay for the book and complete a donor bookplate, and the book will be sent to the classroom as soon as processing is completed.
Donating Books through BookShare
When you purchase books, you’ll have the opportunity to give to BookShare, a program that gives books to children in need. Some people give their spare change, some give a dollar, and some give more. At the end of the Book Fair, representatives of the recipient organizations will come and use the money to shop for books for their school libraries.
