Students Speak:
Class of 2012
Hi, I’m Sydni. Usually I have to correct the spelling of my name, because most people think it’s Cindy. In school, I participate in flag football, drama, basketball, yearbook, volleyball, and track & field, and I do soccer outside of school. I go every Tuesday to play rehearsal, and I do jazz band in the mornings. In drama, I like acting more than reading the lines and learning them, but adding the costumes and seeing the final product is cool.
Last year I had second- and eighth-grade Buddies. I still go back and hug my Buddies in the Lower School, and I know a lot more people in older grades too. When I was in fifth grade, the sixth-graders told me what to get ready for. RDS isn’t just a Lower School and a Middle School; they come together and talk.
Outdoor Education is memorable, and you make new friends. We went to Walker Creek in fifth grade, and our naturalist was named Tide. We went to a water tower and had a water fight on a super hot day, and there was an umbrella tree with branches low to the ground that you could sit under.
I have always wanted to be a civil rights attorney. When we had discussions in fifth grade, Ms. Rees used to say to me “great lawyer points.” When I hear the words “equal rights”, I think of women fighting for the right to vote, people dismantling segregation -- anytime people are fighting for justice and fairness.
