Students Speak:
Class of 2010
Nice to meet you! I’m Channing, and I graduated from eighth grade at Redwood Day in 2010.
My eighth-grade year was good: fun and not quite as hard as I expected! I was the president of the student council, and I played on our flag football and basketball teams and was part of SEP (Student Exchange Program). In SEP, we went to Costa Rica during the summer between seventh and eighth grades, and it was one of the best things I’ll ever do. I bonded with people, made a lot of friends, and will never forget it.
I had more than one favorite year here at RDS, but I really liked our teacher in third grade. Sixth grade was fun too, because we got lots of new kids in our class and got to move to the Middle School section of campus. In fifth grade, I’d been nervous about moving on to Middle School, but I felt academically prepared once I was here.
Here are some of my favorite things about Redwood Day. I like the annual Winter Concert because it lets you see all your friends. I like the sports banquet and seeing all the teams and all the awards that are given out. It was really fun in seventh grade since I was on the basketball team, and we’d had a good year -- we won every game except one! We didn’t win many games in sixth grade because we were all short, but we were a good team.
At RDS, I was friends with kids in all grades. One of my best friends was in the grade below me, and my brother was in a younger grade so I know all of them. Being in sports connected me to younger kids. I always remembered my Lower School buddy from each year and stayed in touch with them.
Being a role model is important at Redwood Day. It's about setting the right example. It’s something I was aware of as an eighth-grader and a student council member. One thing you need to know about this school is that everyone knows what is right and wrong, and the faculty sets a good example for students, and older kids for younger kids, and it’s a really good experience.
