Financial Aid

Redwood Day School continues its strong commitment to socioeconomic diversity through its financial aid program. This assistance is intended as a supplement to family resources and is provided to families who have demonstrated financial need.

The School follows guidelines for the evaluation of financial need established by the School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS) by the National Association of Independent Schools. SSS acts as an outside resource in computing the financial need of families. RDS requires that the most recent tax returns be submitted each year a family applies for financial aid.  

Currently the RDS Board of Trustees allocates more than 13% of tuition revenues for financial aid. Over 23% of enrolled students receive financial assistance with grants ranging from $1,000 to 95% of tuition.

Financial Aid Dates & Deadlines (applying for the 2011-12 academic year)

 

Date Event or Deadline
November 2010 Financial Aid application available for the 2011-12 academic year. Please print materials online or contact Katrina Lappin if you would like a packet mailed to you.
December 1, 2010 Returning student financial aid applications are due. All documentation* must be submitted by 5:00 p.m.
January 31, 2011 New applicants' financial aid applications due. All new applicants to RDS must apply by this second priority deadline. All documentation* must be submitted to RDS and SSS by 5:00 p.m.
 February 2011
 Signed re-enrollment and sibling contracts due. We regret that RDS will not be able to hold spaces or assistance funds for families who do not return contracts by this date.
March 11, 2011

Enrollment decision notification date for new families. Financial aid grants will be indicated on enrollment contracts.

March 18, 2011

Signed new student contracts due to Redwood Day School by 10:00 a.m. RDS will not be able to hold places or assistance funds for students whose contracts are not in on time.
April 15, 2011 2010 Federal Income Tax return and W2 forms due to SSS by NAIS.

Applying for Financial Aid at Redwood Day School

To apply for financial aid at Redwood Day School, please complete the following steps. You may download forms directly from the links provided or contact Katrina Lappin to request that a financial aid application packet be mailed to you.

2010-11 Financial Aid Application Materials (2011-12 materials will be available in early September):

  • Review Redwood Day School Financial Aid Policies, Procedures & Deadlines for 2010-11. This document includes a description of the financial aid application process as well as policies surrounding specific situations.
  • Print out this financial aid application checklist to keep track of what documents are required.
  • Print out this frequently asked questions page that includes answers about the financial aid process at Redwood Day School.
  • Submit a Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) to the School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS). The RDS school code is #6020. You may review these instructions first.
    • Submit your PFS online: To submit your PFS online, visit the School and Student Services website. When finished, print copies for RDS and for your records.
    • Submit your PFS by mail: Contact Katrina Lappin to request a paper copy of the PFS. Complete and mail in your paper PFS, making copies for RDS and for your records.
  • Mail your 2008 IRS income tax return and W2 forms to SSS by NAIS (address provided in financial aid materials and online) by the application deadline. 2009 tax returns and W2 forms must be mailed by April 30, 2010.
  • Complete the RDS Financial Aid Application for 2010-2011 and submit to Redwood Day School along with the following:
    • A copy of your PFS (please send the original to SSS by NAIS)
    • Signed (not dated) IRS form 4506-T (no payment is necessary).
