Redwood Day School, an independent K-8 school in Oakland, is seeking interns for the 2010-2011 academic year to work with a dedicated and diverse faculty and group of students. Redwood Day School is an academic institution that seeks to engage, prepare and inspire our students, as learners and as individuals within a community.
RDS will employ eight full-time Interns for '10-'11. We encourage Interns to train for two years, each year in a different grade. Internships are offered in grades K-3.
Interns are teachers in training. We hire college graduates who are interested in exploring a career in teaching. Many of our Interns also pursue a teaching credential while they complete their Internship, but it is not a requirement.
Interns work closely with a lead teacher to learn about classroom management strategies, curriculum design, project based instruction, learning differences, report writing, handling parent communication, etc. Interns also assist with clerical duties (copying, set up, clean up, bulletin boards, etc.) We expect that you participate parent-teacher conferences, a few evening events, and recess duties. (Kindergarten interns do three recess duties/day.) Interns help out with several weeks of after-school study hall (3:30-4:30) during the year, attend all faculty meetings (including Wednesdays, 3:45-5 p.m.), and participate in school-sponsored professional development days. Interns substitute for lead teachers when they are temporarily absent for illness or other reasons.

Daily 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (1/2 hour lunch), except Wednesdays which are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (1 hour lunch). - What is the compensation?
First year Interns make $20,000 and second year Interns make $25,000. In addition, interns receive full medical, dental, life insurance and TIAA-CREF benefits. - How do I apply?
