RDS believes in a balanced education. An integral part of this philosophy means that we provide an excellent arts program that allows children to explore opportunities to express themselves creatively.
In our dance classes children learn to perform traditional and non-traditional methods of self expression. In middle school. improvisation is highlighted as a means to reach unfamiliar communication techniques and the program focuses on doing scripted work with monologues, Shakespeare explorations, and scenes. We believe that children need many different mediums to express themselves artistically.
In our art studio, children learn many of the basics of color definition, line/design formation, three dimentional exploration, block printing, working with clay and the history of famous artists.
Musically, our children are given a variety of options to succeed. Every student has music class twice a week, but many want to extend their opportunities and join the rock band, jazz band, chorus groups, or a variety of instrumental groups which include strings or wind iinstruments. Students have ample opportunities to perform within the school community and are thrilled when they are recognized as top performers in the broader community. Our arts department continues to grow and develop as we meet the individuals who bring so much talent to our school.
