Redwood Day staff supports students in these exciting adolescent years of incredible growth and change. Middle School students are assigned to Advisory groups of 9-15 students from the same grade level and one RDS Middle School faculty member. Twice a week, these groups meet to explore personal, school, community and world issues. This forum allows students, in an emotionally safe environment, to work through issues of concern.
We offer gender-separated math and science classes in seventh and eighth grades to maximize student learning, confidence, and accomplishment in these subjects. When appropriate, a grade is also divided into gender-based groups outside of the traditional classroom setting to discuss issues of interest, such as self-esteem, body image concerns, and communication skills.
Redwood Day School students are well prepared for and accepted into excellent independent high schools throughout the Bay Area. Our graduates have mastered core academics, developed interdisciplinary learning and project development skills, have good study habits, and understand how they learn most effectively so they can thrive confidently in high school.
