Developmentally, Middle School students are beginning to think in abstract terms. As they enter Sixth grade, many students are challenged to manage their daily and long-term assignments. Developing time management strategies is one of the primary goals of the Sixth grade year.

Classes include history, English, science, math, art, music, physical education, dance, drama, and Spanish. Middle School students hone skills that prepare them for the college preparatory high schools they will attend. Students complete complex projects that require the integration of writing, mathematics, research, analysis, and project management skills. The faculty works with each child to help them balance academic rigor and emotional well-being.

During regularly scheduled Study Hall, students meet with teachers. Advisors give regular attention to checking student planners, monitoring academic priorities, and supporting student organization, time management and academic projects.

Outdoor education focuses on environmental studies, team building, and community service. In the Eighth grade, students also travel to Washington, D.C. to visit monuments, museums, and memorials. This trip is integrated with a yearlong study of American History.
