Redwood Day School has made a commitment to all students as learners. While our learning specialists often work with children who have identified learning disabilities, the role of learning specialists at RDS is manifold. Together with teachers and the administration, our learning specialists develop in-house lectures and trainings on learning styles, differentiated instruction, and relevant brain research. Individually, teachers request assistance in developing differentiated curriculum, strengthening lesson plans or expanding their ability to accommodate individual student’s learning needs.
Direct service to students includes early assessment in reading, small pull-out groups, work within the classroom, as well as middle school short-term individual sessions to work on learning style and study skills. Parents also have access to the learning specialists and consult with them on a variety of subjects including standardized testing, study skills, or community referrals.
